      The astrological new years and the Thai Lunar Calendar Thailand's Songkran Festival is by far the most important event of the year for the Thai people.
      It's a time of fun and a special time for New Year ritual and respect for water, the most important element in the agriculture culture of Southeast Asia. Songkran falls in mid-April every year and has its origins in ancient astrology and the position of the sun. the term of Songkran itself mean "a move or change in the position of the sun from Aries to Taurus" it fall sometime between April 10, and April 18 and in Thai tradition it include the celebration of the end of the one year.

      According to stone inscription in Wutt Chetupol as, one of wealthy men have no child while one of drung man who live next to him got one. One day both of them have an argument, the drung man said to the wealthy man that you have the money and wealth but one day it will extinguish cause you have no child but he got child that worse than any wealth. So after that day wealthy man has pray to God of the Sun and Moon to have a child. Three years later he still not getting one, until on the Change from Aries to Taurus he have make a worship to Shai god and this god have feel sorry for him. The Shai God went to ask the highest God to offer him a child. The highest God have let Tevabutt to born in the womb of wealthy man 's wife. After she gave birth of that child was named Thamabal. He soon became one of the smartest man in the world he can also understand of bird language.
      Kabila, a four -faced Braham god, is believed to be the lord of Songkran. He had seven beautiful daughters who became the symbols of Songkran (known as Nang Songkran). Kabila was so gifted that he was believed to be the smartest man in the world. He was very proud of himself and always thought there was on one as wise as he was.
      One day, he heard that there was a clever man named Thamabal on the earth. Everyone praised this man for his wisdom. Kabila became jealous, turned himself into an ordinary man and came down from heaven to ask Thamabal a riddle. If Thamabal couldn't answer the riddles he had to cut off his own head. If he could answer it, Kabila had to cut off his head.
      There were three riddles as following, where is the sign in the morning, lunch time and evening time? Thamabal have to answer it within 7 days. After 6 days had gone Thamabal still hasn't got the answer so he decided to go down from the castle and stay under the tree. Under this tree where he had heard two birds conversation, one of the bird said, "What we would have for the meals tomorrow?" And another bird replied, "We will have dead body of Thamabal cause he can not answer to Kabila's riddles". One of the bird ask for the riddles and one of them told the answer to that question. Thamabal listening to them and he got the answer.
      Kabila was the loser. He cut his head off but once it was cut from his body, it became lethal. If it fell on the earth, the whole world would be destroyed by fire. It was thrown into the water all the oceans would dry up and there would be an everlasting drought.
      To stop this from happening Kabila's eldest daughter, Tungsa put her father's head safety in Khanduli Cave on heavenly Mount Kralilas. Once a year on Songkran day his daughter would bring Kabila's head put of the cave and lead a precession around Mount Krailas. After this the inhabitants of all the seven-leveled-havens bathed and held a great celebration.

      There were 7 daughters of Kabila, depending on the Songkran day that fall on each of his daughter will have turn to bring Kabila's head preventing from fall on the ground, there are:
      Sunday: Nang Songkran named Tungsa,
      Monday: Nang Songkran named Koraka,
      Tuesday: Nang Songkran named Rasok,
      Wednesday: Nang Songkran named Monta,
      Thursday: Nang Songkran named kirinee,
      Friday: Nang Songkran named Kitima,
      Saturday: Nang Songkran named Mahoton.

      Songkran is one of Thai tradition celebration of Thai old New Year. It is occasion of passionate of love and relationship in family, community, society and religion as following:
      1. Important for family as a chance for family member to join and gathering together such as younger family member offer things for elder and older bless for a younger one. It is also an indication of reminding about relative and ancient who had passed away.
      2. Important for society, for society harmony such as join of making merit and gathering together
      3. Important for community, to sharing love and harmony within community, to care for public facility, environment, helping each others to clean community area include temple, house and public building.
      4. Important for religion, to support our Buddhism way by making merit and offering rice and food for the monk and following Buddha 's teaching and build sand pagoda.

      Songkran tradition activities that should be reserved and supported are:
1. Preparation
      - Preparation of clothing as to prepare clean and polite cloths also cloth that going to wear when you have to shown respective to family
      - People clean their house and community are a such as Temple that festival will be held

2. Activity procedure
      - People prepared cooked and meals of the Buddhist merit-making activities for relative that had pass away
      - The traditional of carry sand to temple then they will use the sand to build many type of animals image with having joss stick and candle put on the top
      - Merit making by release birds from cage and fish, also include of listening to monk chanting and following Buddha's teaching
      - To pass merit making to relative who had passed away by listening to monk chanting.
      - Clean Buddha image with clean water or water that mixed with Thai perfume with jasmine
      - Bathed Buddhist monk with clean water or to offering monk cloths
      - Bathed older as to shown a respected with clean water or the water that mixed with Thai perfume with fresh flower such as Thai jasmine
      - Politely Splashing water to each other without causing any trouble, without braking any rule or other people's right
      - Others gathering depending on each town traditional
